Nurse Recruitment FAQs

Who should apply?

Current nursing students nearing completion of their nursing program and currently licensed nurses looking for a new opportunity.

When should I apply?

Nursing students: We encourage to-be new nurse candidates to apply 5 months prior to completion of their program. This timing allows applications and resumes to be reviewed, and the interviewing process to begin before graduation. St. Clair welcomes nursing students who want to start as a Graduate Nurse (GN) and who will be obtaining a Temporary Practice Permit (TPP).

Nurse interns: The Nurse Internship Program is offered each summer for nursing students who are between their junior and senior years. The program is a 9-week paid internship and the opportunity is posted in September of the prior year.

Currently licensed nurses: We welcome applications at any time for those currently licensed. New applications are continuously reviewed by hiring nurse managers.

What new nurse program is available?

St. Clair Health has an exciting Nurse Transition Program (Residency Program) available to nurses with fewer than two years of clinical experience. The program supports new nurses in the transition to practice within the St. Clair environment. Those in the program partner with an experienced nurse preceptor who guides the progression in patient assignment and completion of the competency-based orientation. Additionally, during the first year, our nursing educators lead scheduled focus groups to specifically address any additional education needs and solicit feedback. There is an ongoing partnership among experienced nurses and novice nurses, and those partnerships encourage continued learning and growth.

What will a career path look like at St. Clair?

The Career Pathways Program gives nurses opportunities to advance their knowledge, gain new skills, and develop their careers. The Pathways program can help a nurse grow into a specialty area, such as leadership, critical, psychiatric or perioperative care.
