Healthgrades Names St. Clair Health A Top U.S. Hospital For Patient Safety & Patient Experience
PITTSBURGH, PA (April 12, 2022) – Healthgrades, the number one website Americans use to find information about physicians and hospitals, recently awarded St. Clair Health with the 2023 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ and 2023 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™.
St. Clair Health is one of only 83 hospitals to receive both honors, placing St. Clair Health among the top two percent of hospitals nationally. Additionally, St. Clair Health is one of just six hospitals in Pennsylvania and the only hospital in the region to be awarded for both patient safety and patient experience by Healthgrades in 2023. This marks the tenth year in a row that St. Clair Health has received the Outstanding Patient Experience Award.
“At St. Clair Health, patients and their families are at the core of our daily work. We aim to provide a great experience, while delivering quality care in the safest possible environment,” said Marion McGowan, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at St. Clair Health. “Our team of expert caregivers work tirelessly toward this aim, so we are proud their efforts have been recognized with these Healthgrades awards.”
The 2023 Patient Safety Excellence Award recognizes the top 15 percent of hospitals across the country for providing quality care, while keeping patients safe during hospital stays. These 445 hospitals met certain clinical quality thresholds and exhibited strong safety records on at least seven out of eight core patient safety indicators (PSIs). If all hospitals as a group performed similarly to this year’s recipients, an average of 95,880 patient safety events could have been avoided between 2019 and 2021.
The 2023 Outstanding Patient Experience Award recognizes the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide for delivering a best-in-class patient experience during the January-December 2021 study period. Healthgrades evaluated patient survey data against patient experience benchmarks nationwide that displayed an unwavering commitment to prioritizing positive patient experience during a short-term, acute care visit.
“Safety and quality go hand in hand, and St. Clair Health is a hospital that continues to excel at both,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Healthgrades. “We commend St. Clair Health for its ongoing efforts to prioritize an exceptional patient experience, while also ensuring the health and safety of their patients.”
In addition to the patient safety and patient experience awards, Healthgrades has recognized St. Clair Health as a one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgeries™ in 2023. Plus, St. Clair Health has been named a Five-Star Recipient by Healthgrades in cardiac care, orthopedics, neurosciences, pulmonary care, prostate surgery, and labor and delivery for several years in a row.
